Community Heritage Hub@The Smiddy Cottage

We are keen for more people to find out how interesting a place Cousland is, and through the archiving, conserving and displaying of our artefacts, photographs and documents, along with the restored
Smiddy and its industrial collection, we are now able to let visitors see and experience
Cousland’s place in Scotland’s Story
The stories of the Blacksmiths who lived at the smiddy, their working and social lives,
date back to the 1700’s and we have had many visits from descendants, particularly from the
Sked family, who have donated many photographs & documents to the collections.
The displays in the cottage put them in the heart of a rural village, and deliver the past life of today’s village, its connections with major historical events in Scotland and its Iron Age & Medieval roots.
2023 sees a display of Farming in Cousland and The Village's role in Scottish Country Dancing
Visitors are be able to explore the collections with our volunteers and research family and local history.
