Cousland Smiddy Trust
We are a registered charity, established in 1989, which aims to preserve the Smiddy buildings and their surroundings as a key part of the village's heritage and amenity, keeping alive the tradition of rural blacksmithing and the smiddy at the heart of our community. Engaging people in our conservation and development projects and offering a varied programme of (hands-on) activities and events helps build capacity in our community for the stewardship of our heritage resources. |
Cousland Local History Project
Set up as a Millennium project in 2000, we have gathered and researched: written and photographic material, artefacts and archaeological items, creating a collection which shows how interesting the village is. Knowledge about the village and its history has grown in the last few years, through activities such as the Lime Hutches Project, where we saved and restored remnants of the lime industry, and The Big Cousland Dig. |
Community Heritage Hub@The Smiddy Cottage
The collections of both The Smiddy Trust and Local History Project have been brought together in one location allowing the groups to conserve assets, archives & artefacts, and interpret & display them to visitors. There are always new and interesting stories to be told about Cousland’s past and its part in Scotland’s Story! |
