Once again, on Saturday 13th September, Cousland Smiddy and Heritage Hub will be part
of Midlothian's annual Doors Open Day Event.  Open from 10am – 4pm.

Following the successful format of previous years, our resident farrier Sean Broadfoot will be
giving live demonstrations of his shoemaking skills as well as demonstrating live shoeing of
horses in the morning and afternoon. 

The restored Smiddy Cottage, is also open to visitors, and Local History Project members
will be on hand to give a fascinating insight into days gone by. 

Additionally there will be the usual array of traditional games to try, produce to buy from the
organic allotments within the grounds, refreshments and local baking. 

We would really welcome any support you can give, whether that is the through the donation
of produce or baking (please include a list of ingredients if you do), to support on the day, or
just to come and visit on what is a really important day for Cousland Smiddy and the
Heritage Hub. 

Produce and baking donations can be dropped off at the Smiddy, either on the afternoon of
Friday 12th September, or on the day itself between 8am and 10am when the Smiddy and
Cottage will open for the day. 

If you are able to help with catering, sales table etc on the day please contact
cousland.localhistory@gmail.com when we can allocate a time and task to suit.

ALL hands welcome! This is our big event of the year.

It has taken much longer than planned, as with everything this past year, but our programme of restoration works was completed last September and is all now signed off and paid for. 

Now we hope to be able to get into the smiddy with volunteers to re-display the tools collection and get ready to welcome visitors as soon as we are allowed.

We hope to hold a Doors Open Day event in September which we look forward to very much, and roll on Carols at the Forge in December!
